Rev. Dwight H. Judy, Ph.D. Professor Emeritus of Spiritual Formation | Coordinator for Lifelong Learning in Spiritual Formation/Direction, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary

Rev. Buckwell has been instrumental in the development of continuing education on-line courses over the past four years. I have coordinated these courses on behalf of Lifelong Learning at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois.

More significantly, she has taught several of the 6-week on-line courses. Her skills in on-line teaching are outstanding. She has provided meaningful content in very accessible ways. Her presentation in on-line format is user friendly. Her content is always very rich. She has provided courses on developing spiritual formation ministry in congregations; retreat and small group leadership; and a daily advent retreat utilizing her recently published book: The Advent of God’s Word (Skylight Paths, 2015). She will develop a new course in 2017: Desert Spirituality: Wisdom of the Ammas and Abbas.

Rev. Buckwell can always be counted on to provide excellent interactions with class participants and wisdom gained from her many years of spiritual formation leadership.

Rev. Desi Larson Pastor, Ashton Community United Methodist Church

I have been in a professional coaching relationship with Rev. Buckwell since September 2016. We have been meeting over the phone approximately bi-monthly for hour-long coaching sessions since then. I was so impressed with the first session that I contracted for more sessions and hope to continue working with Rev. Buckwell for the foreseeable future.

During our coaching sessions, Rev. Buckwell has helped me to clarify goals and outcomes for mission and ministry. She has provided me with resources for my own professional/spiritual development as a pastor, as well as for working with congregants.

I have been especially appreciative of Rev. Buckwell’s spiritual guidance and grounding in Wesleyan Christian spirituality. She keeps Christ as center in our conversations and coaching. I am very grateful for the opportunity to work with Rev. Buckwell, helping me to focus my work with Christ and His church here in Ashton, Idaho.

Supply Preaching David Lutheran Church

Our church had a time period of 2 ½ months between Pastors. Over that time period Pastor Brenda preached at David Lutheran on 4 weekends (three services each weekend) and also for Ash Wednesday. Our members received her sermons very well.  She engages the congregation in her sermons and uses personal stories to give her sermons a more personal touch. Pastor Brenda always ends her sermons asking reflective questions to our members and encouraging them to think about how the scripture lessons are reflected in how we live our lives. While she is an ordained Methodist Minister, she was very thoughtful and cautious about following the Lutheran traditions. She was very gracious to our members and easily engaged in conversation with them.  It was a pleasure having her for our supply pastor!

Kathryn J. Tashima Director of Congregational Life, Sylvania United Church of Christ, Sylvania, Ohio

We at Sylvania United Church of Christ have had the privilege to work with Rev. Dr. Brenda Buckwell of Living Streams Flowing Water, LLC, on two occasions for our women’s retreats.  Her abundant gifts are evident in the planning and leadership  of the retreats. Brenda crafted our time together in a creative and sacred way. Our participants deemed her retreats as among the favorites over the past 25 years. From the beginning, the contracts and billing were handled in a very professional manner. Brenda is an extraordinary retreat leader and has blessed the women of Sylvania UCC.

Brenda, The pace of this [Lenten Retreat class in partnership with UMC Cyber Campus] has been balm for me; no online conversations to keep up with truly make it feel like a retreat and two prayer reflections that I can spend the whole week with seem nourishing, not frantic. I really enjoyed the first online session, seeing faces, and being guided and am so grateful for the video of the second.

Peggy Sham, MA, MDiv, LPC, LCDC UMC Ministry Candidate
I was blessed to have Brenda as my internship mentor, during my preparation for specialized ministry. She is an excellent supervisor in worship arts and ministry beside persons struggling with addictions and poverty. During my year as her mentee, I also received much more. Brenda provided spiritual direction that changed my whole approach to life. She taught me ways to wait patiently for the Divine whisper, which continues to enrich my relationship with God. The practices I embraced while working with Brenda quench the deep desire of my soul, even in this demanding ministry. Brenda’s spiritual direction and coaching are also multiplied as I share what I learned with young substance abusers in my counseling work.
